Overall Thoughts:

The Brooklyn Bedding Aurora Luxe Mattress might just be the solution to every hot sleeper’s needs. A vital feature of this bed is its state-of-the-art cooling technology, which is uniquely designed to keep the mattress at cool and comfortable temperatures throughout the night. And with its multiple firmness levels, this hybrid mattress should appeal to virtually every sleeper type out there, irrespective of their body weight. Its thick foam layers offer ample body contouring while the zoned support system cradles more deeply for painful pressure point relief and spinal support.

Mattress Design and Performance

We ran this Brooklyn Bedding Mattress through several tests, including temperature regulation, motion isolation, pressure relief, and other criteria. Here's how it performed.

Brooklyn Bedding Aurora Luxe Mattress Firmness

Brooklyn Bedding Aurora Luxe

Let's start by looking at Brooklyn Bedding Aurora Luxe's firmness and feel. Mattress firmness and feel are crucial to keep in mind whenever you're shopping for a mattress. Depending on how soft or firm your sleep surface is, it may or may not support your body weight and sleep position.

The Brooklyn Bedding Aurora Luxe comes in three firmness levels: Soft(3), medium (5), and Firm(7). We reviewed the medium version and found it to be a 5/10 on our firmness scale. Generally, the industry standard for medium-firm mattresses is 6.5, suggesting the Brooklyn Bedding Aurora Luxe is slightly softer.

CHOOSE firm IF:

You're a lightweight sleeper or side sleeper who wants a sleep surface that conforms closely to the body.

You're an average-weight sleeper or back sleeper who needs a bed that conforms to the body while still offering even support.

you're a stomach sleeper or plus size individual who loves minimal body conforming and a more supportive mattress

Shoppers who need more pressure relief and comfort can also add a cloud pillow top to change their mattress firmness level.

On top, the Brooklyn Bedding Aurora Luxe exhibits a bouncy and responsive feel, thanks to its responsive TitanFlex Foam layer. When I pushed my hands into the surface and pulled them away, the foam quickly returned to its original position. At the same time, when we slept on the Brooklyn Bedding Aurora Luxe during testing, we could feel the bounce and support of the coils in the support layer. Overall, this bouncy, responsive, and supportive feel makes it easier to move around and change sleep positions.

Temperature Regulation

Temperature Regulation

Our numerous tests showed that the Brooklyn Bedding Aurora Luxe Mattress regulates temperature pretty well, especially compared to other Brooklyn Bedding mattresses. Excessive heat retention is less of a problem as the coil support layer promotes maximum airflow to cool off the inner layers, helping the entire mattress maintain a comfortable sleep temperature.

Additionally, the Brooklyn Bedding Aurora Mattress boasts PCM (phase change material) in its top layers and mattress cover, which prevents heat buildup and makes the surface feel cool to the touch. The responsive surface should also keep you on top of the bed, making heat retention less likely. However, if you're an exceptionally hot sleeper, you may find the soft model a bit uncomfortable, as it allows your body to sink more into the mattress, which can restrict airflow.

Motion Isolation

A responsive coiled support system encourages motion transfer across the sleep surface. That said, we found the Aurora Luxe isolates motion better than most hybrid mattresses. While the polyfoam layers in the comfort system give the mattress some bounce, they also help absorb excess motion from the coils, preventing vibrations from transferring to the other side. What's more, pocketed coils move independently, which further helps minimize motion transfer. If you find your partner's movements particularly disruptive, you should opt for the soft model, as it's an excellent choice for isolating motion among the three versions.

Edge Support

The Brooklyn Bedding Aurora Luxe boasts standout edge support thanks to its thick coil system that resists deep compression. A hybrid design and reinforced edges reduce sagging along the sides. That said, the soft model of the Aurora Luxe Mattress is slightly weaker around the perimeter compared to the other two firmness levels. While lightweight sleepers may feel stable on this version, plus-size individuals may notice more sinkage when sleeping or sitting along the edges.

Pressure Relief

With its foam comfort system, the Aurora Luxe relieves pressure for most sleep styles and body types. The polyfoam and gel-infused memory foam layers work together to cushion painful pressure points along the shoulders, hips, and spine. Additionally, the combination of firm support and moderate contouring helps distribute weight evenly across the surface, minimizing pressure build-up.

Responsiveness

The Brooklyn Bedding Aurora Mattress is well-known for its bouncy and responsive feel, thanks to the combination of TitanFlex Foam and an individually wrapped coil system. These materials work hand in hand to react quickly to pressure, offering a bouncy feel, which makes it easier to change positions and move around the surface.

Mattress Safety

Like other mattresses in the Brooklyn Bedding product line, the Aurora Luxe is made of materials that focus on overall comfort, support, and safety. In addition to keeping you cool at night, its GlacioTex Cooling Cover and copper-infused foam help protect your sleep surface against allergens, dust mites, and bacteria. However, it's worth noting that the Aurora Luxe produced some off-gassing smell when we first removed it from its shipping box.

This is usually caused by the release of VOCs (volatile organic compounds) contained in foam materials. Fortunately, these odors should dissipate within 24 to 48 hours of unboxing your mattress. Plus, Brooklyn Bedding uses CertiPUR-US certified foams, which indicate low VOCs emissions. If you're more sensitive to these emissions, we recommend airing your hybrid mattress in a well-ventilated room.

Performance with Couples

If you often share your bed with your partner, you'll want to look out for extra elements that might not be that beneficial to solo sleepers. For instance, you'll want to know how your mattress limits motion transfer, whether or not it's suitable for sex, if it features sturdy edge support, and whether or not it will keep you and your partner cool and sweat-free throughout the night. Well, lucky for you, the Brooklyn Bedding Aurora Luxe ticks all these boxes and much more. We recommend it to couples and those who sleep with their kids or pets.

Sleeping Positions and Body Weight

A mattress will perform differently depending on your body type and preferred sleep position. Let's go over how the Brooklyn Bedding Aurora Luxe performs for different types of sleepers.

Back Sleepers

We found that the Brooklyn Bedding Aurora Luxe was suitable for back sleepers across all weight categories. If you're a lightweight back sleeper, you'll be better off with the soft Aurora Luxe model, as it will deliver adequate support without the deep body sink. On the other hand, heavyweight and average-weight back sleepers may want to opt for a firmer mattress feel instead, as the soft version will likely sag too much under their waist and torso, leading to lower back pain.

Side Sleepers

Most side sleepers should feel exceptionally comfortable on the soft Brooklyn Bedding Aurora Luxe. The foam layers should cushion the hips and shoulders to support the spine and help reduce pressure buildup. However, side sleepers who weigh more than 230 pounds might find this model too soft for their comfort needs. Remember, too much padding causes the hips and shoulders to sink deeper than other body parts, resulting in uneven spinal alignment. That's why we recommend this kind of sleepers to go for a firmer mattress feel.

Stomach Sleepers

Like back sleepers, those who sleep on their stomach typically favor firm mattresses that can resist compression under the midsection. The soft version of the Brooklyn Bedding Aurora Mattress should offer ideal contouring and conform closely enough to the body to reduce pressure. While we found it supportive and comfortable for stomach sleepers in all weight categories, it performed pretty well for those weighing less than 130 pounds.

Maximum Body Weight

The Brooklyn Bedding Aurora Luxe Mattress is designed to hold up to 950 pounds. However, if you or your partner weigh over 300 pounds and prefer more support, you may want to check out Brooklyn Bedding's Titan Plus, as it's specially designed to support plus-size sleepers.

Which Frame is Best Used with the Brooklyn Bedding Aurora Luxe?

Brooklyn Bedding Aurora Luxe Comparisons

Before you hit that order button, let's conduct some comparison shopping. How does the Brooklyn Bedding Aurora Luxe stack up against similar mattresses?

Aurora Luxe Vs. Signature Hybrid

Signature Hybrid

Unlike the Brooklyn Bedding Aurora Luxe Mattress, the Signature Hybrid comes with a classic innerspring feel and a plush pillow top that offers excellent pressure relief. It's also available in three firmness levels, making it a solid pick for shoppers who'd like to customize. Considered a great value mattress, the Brooklyn Bedding Signature Hybrid is cheaper than the Aurora Luxe. If you're a side sleeper who prioritizes a pillow top feel, and you want a more budget-friendly alternative, the Brooklyn Bedding Signature Hybrid is a solid pick.

Aurora Luxe Vs. PlushBeds - The Cool Bliss

The Cool Bliss

Both the Brooklyn Bedding Aurora Luxe and the Cool Bliss Mattress from PlushBeds are specially designed with cooling in mind. However, they use different cooling materials and construction to regulate body temperature. The Cool Bliss, for instance, features a combination of latex and gel memory foam layers for optimal cooling comfort. It's also more responsive than the Aurora Luxe, thanks to its 2-inch natural latex layer.

When it comes to price, the Cool Bliss is the most expensive model of the two, coming in at $1,903 for the queen mattress. However, its premium features, including a GOTS-certified organic cotton cover and a GOLS-certified, organically grown Dunlop latex layer, make it worth the investment. Plus, you get free pillows, a luxury sheet set, and a mattress protector with each purchase.

Aurora Luxe Vs. Amerisleep AS3 Mattress

Amerisleep AS3 Mattress

The Amerisleep AS3 Mattress is usually compared with the Brooklyn Bedding Aurora Luxe Mattress for its cooling performance. It comes with a Refresh Cover and a plant-based Bio-Pur foam layer to help keep the sleep surface cool and comfortable throughout the night. However, as an all-foam mattress, the AS3 is definitely the softer model of these two, while the Aurora Luxe is firmer and more supportive.

That's why we recommend that back and stomach sleepers stick with the Brooklyn Bedding Aurora Luxe, while side sleepers and individuals who suffer from back pain opt for the Amerisleep AS3 Mattress. The AS3 is slightly more expensive than the Aurora Luxe. A queen-sized AS3 Mattress costs around $1,300, so if you're a budget-conscious shopper, you may want to go for the Brooklyn Bedding Aurora Luxe Mattress.

Aurora Luxe Vs. Molecule Reflex Boost

Molecule Reflex Boost

Both the Brooklyn Bedding Aurora Luxe and the Molecule Reflex Boost boast unique features and materials that cater to different sleep preferences. As an all-foam mattress, the Molecule Reflex Boost comes with a responsive, latex-like feel that delivers extra pushback for balanced and uplifting body support and exceptional pressure point relief. While this mattress sleeps fairly cool for an all-foam mattress, the Aurora Luxe wins out, thanks to its copper-infused foam, GlacioTex cover, and other cooling features.

Molecule Reflex Boost’s medium-firm feel and responsive nature make it an ideal choice for back sleepers, side sleepers, and combination sleepers who need a sleep surface that enables them to change positions easily during the night. When it comes to price, the Molecule Reflex Boost is a bit expensive, coming in at $1,699.99 for the queen model.

Closing Thoughts

Known as Brooklyn Bedding's cooling powerhouse, the Aurora Luxe stands out as a luxury hybrid bed that excels in cooling and overall comfort. Its multiple firmness options make it an excellent choice for a wide range of sleepers. While it comes with some hurdles, such as an above-average motion transfer and a slippery top cover, the Brooklyn Bedding Aurora Luxe Mattress is a compelling option for anyone looking for cooler and restorative sleep, no matter the mattress preference.
