The Standard Futon Size You're Thinking of is a Full Size/Double

When you buy a budget futon from somewhere like Walmart or Target, they are generally sold with an entry-level mattress on full futon frames. Full futon mattresses makes for a great futon-couch conversion piece for a guest room, living room or game room.

Most futon mattresses come in a full size/double size because they can easily fit two people, but when opened up to be used as a bed, they don't take up too much space. They are also big enough to be folded up and used as a couch when they aren't being used for sleep.

Since futons on futon frames are not normally the main mattress of a household, you don't see them in queen or king sizes as often as you see full futon and twin futon mattress.

  1. I need a new bed and set, I move to my Uncles house with a bigger room than I had before. I like to make extra space but I wanna UPgrade to a bigger bed that is not a Twin XL. We are Suggesting I should get a Futon to make less space in the day time than make the bed at night time when I sleep.

  2. Will twin XL fitted sheets fit a futon twin XL bed. Grandson going to college and dorm has Futon twin XL bed. Getting things ready for him.

    1. Futon and mattress sizes are consistent. Sheets made for a twin XL mattress should be fine for a futon also labeled Twin XL. Note, the XL is longer than a traditional twin, so twin sheets would be too short for both a twin XL mattress and twin XL futon.

  3. We have a double size futon but have always had trouble finding sheets to fit. All those we bought are too “derp” and wrinkle badly. Our futon is 8” deep.
Does anyone make sheets to fit futons?

  4. I have a futon with a bull size futon mattress. I need to buy a new mattress and I would like to know if I could buy a queen size mattress to fit on my futon instead of the full size? Any thoughts?
