Layla Kapok Pillow Review

If you're considering buying a pillow from Layla but aren't quite sure if you'll like it without being able to test it first, you've come to the right place.

Layla offers a few different pillow options, but this review will focus heavily on the Kapok pillow. This innovative pillow could be great for some people, but horrible for others.

If you want to know whether you're likely to love or hate the Kapok pillow from Layla, keep reading to find out more.

Quick Summary:

The Kapok pillow is great for all types of sleepers. It has a tall profile than most other pillows, but the filling can be removed to personalize the height. This pillow is made with Kapok fibers, which are light and airy, yet incredibly supportive. This material helps contour your head and neck without you feeling hot or stuck.

Pros

  • Great contouring without feeling stuck
  • Cooling cover and airy filling keeps you cool all night
  • The filling is easily removable to adjust the height
  • Free shipping
  • 120 day trial period

Cons

  • There isn't an internal casing to hold the material, so if you want to wash the pillow without the filling, you have to take all the filling out and store it while the cover gets washed.

When it comes to the sleep industry, Layla is considered a relatively new brand, but they're taking the industry by storm. They've managed to carve out space in a crowded niche by focusing on customer service and incredible product quality.

They offer a variety of products, ranging from pillow and sheets to premium mattresses and toppers. Almost all of which use a copper-infused foam material that helps keep everything cool and comfortable throughout the night.

Shredded Memory Foam Pillow

Shredded Memory Foam Pillow

This is the cheaper of the two pillows offered by Layla. Rather than a traditional cotton filling or down alternative filling, this pillow is filled with shredded memory foam. The big benefit of shredded memory foam is it won't ever get clumped as other materials do. This pillow is thinner than the Kapok pillow and best suited for side sleepers and stomach sleepers.

Kapok Pillow

This is Layla's premium, more expensive pillow. It's also filled with shredded memory foam, but unlike the cheaper option, it also uses Kapok fibers as well. This gives the pillow an incredibly airy and supportive feel. It has a taller profile than the shredded memory foam pillow, but it's worth noting that the filling can be removed, so its the perfect height for whoever uses it.

What's In The Pillow & Overall Feel

The Kapok pillow is more than just a shredded memory foam pillow. Normally, shredded memory foam pillows have either a sinking feeling or a noticeable bounce depending on the type of foam that's used. Shredded memory foam pillows are very popular right now because mattress manufacturers can just use leftover materials to make them. The Kapok pillow is a little different.

The Kapok pillow is unique in that it uses a combination of memory foam and Kapok fibers. This gives the pillow a wonderfully balanced feel. It's hard to describe, but it's simultaneously very supportive while still being easy to compress, so it conforms to your head quickly and effectively. It's one of those things that you have to feel to understand truly. The filling of the pillow makes it feel very huggable. You can either sleep on it like a normal pillow or hug it like a body pillow or stick it between your legs for extra hip support. It's incredibly versatile and great at relieving pressure.

Sleep Position Overview

How you sleep has a huge impact on what sleep products you'll find comfortable.

Back and Side Sleepers

Since the Kapok pillow has a large loft (it's rather tall), it's an excellent pick for back and side sleepers right out of the box. The taller profile helps support and align your neck when you're sleeping on your back. If you sleep on your side, you need a similar level of support. When you sleep on your side, you can also hug the pillow and squish it up however feels the most comfortable.

Stomach Sleepers

Stomach sleepers generally need a much thinner pillow, so you may think the Kapok pillow isn't the best choice. Well, you'd be right if you didn't have the option to remove filling.

If you're a stomach sleeper, a single Kapok pillow has enough filling to be able to remove as much as half of it to lower the height to fit your needs. Do you know what happens when you remove half of the filling? You now have the materials to stuff another casing and make yourself a second pillow! One thing to note, though -- the cover of this pillow is incredible, and simply stuffing another cover won't give you the full feeling of the original pillow, but what else would you do with that much leftover filling otherwise?

The Layla Kapok pillow is incredibly versatile and is one of the only pillows we've tested that we can honestly say is a great fit for all sleep styles. Since it has such a universally agreed upon comfortable feel and the ability to remove the stuffing, it's a no brainer. The photo below is of the Kapok pillow at half full.

Who Should Buy This Pillow?

The Layla Kapok pillow is a solid purchase -- no ifs, ands, or buts about it.

This pillow is a tad more expensive than you may expect to spend on a pillow, but trust me, it's worth it. Here's a quick summary of the people that will love this pillow the most.

Back and Side Sleepers: This group of sleepers will adore the Layla Kapok pillow. Since its taller than most other pillows out there, you get a level of support that most other products can't compete with. If you're a back sleeper, the pillow will support your head and neck. If you're a stomach sleeper, you can hug the pillow, and it's able to reach your head while still being tucked between your knees if you sleep in a fetal position.

Neck Pain Sufferers: While not all neck pain is caused by a bad sleep position, not getting good support while you sleep definitely isn't helping your neck pain. No matter what position you sleep in, the support this pillow offers will go a long way in helping to ease upper back and neck pain.

Those Who Have Never Tried a Layla Product: Layla puts out products that provide next-level comfort. Their materials and product construction process are unique in the industry.
