The cover is attached to an extra strong fabric that has handles to enhance mattress carriage. From the bottom-up we have a recycled plant fiber layer that acts as the foundation. It is sturdy enough to hold the coils and give the mattress its durability. Nolah refers to it as the HDMax™ Tri-zone™ that has zoned support for pressure point relief.
Then comes the 8 in coil system with individually wrapped coils to provide support, motion isolation and a good bounce. Above that we have three foam layers that help with pressure point relief. To advance their mattress technology Nolah added a heat escape gusset known as AirBreath™. This border is for air circulation and to help heat escape from the body. Finally, the first layer from the top is a two inch Euro topper quilted to provide cushioning, breathability and cooling.

SleepOvation recently rebranded to Kiwi Sleep. However, the quality of the mattress remains the same. While unique in design, the SleepOvation mattress surprisingly has very few layers to it. Our favorite feature is the removable mattress cover that's also washable. This is rare with most mattresses, in fact it's only commonly found in toppers and pillows. Once you zip out the cover you'll find a mattress pad that covers all round the mattress to protect the inner layers from damage and spills.
Under the mattress pad there are two main layers; memory foam and coils. The memory foam is their unique technology, where SleepOvation built 700 pieces of perforated foam. This separation between the foam bring about immense airflow hence keeping sleeping cool and dry through the night. The foam also offers great pressure relief and together with the individually wrapped coil system, you get a good bounce.
Who should buy the SleepOvation mattress?
This mattress is good for combination back and side sleepers. It's also good for people who sleep hot or live in hot areas. Couples will also enjoy the motion isolation with this mattress. The mattress is also good for sleepers who suffer from back pain.
Certifications and safety
The SleepOvation mattress is a CertiPUR-US certified mattress. This means it doesn't contain any harmful chemicals that can cause respiratory issues, allergies or chemical poisoning. It is also certified by Gold GREENGUARD Gold.
Price, Trials & Shipping
The SleepOvation is quite pricey but definitely worth the price tag. It currently goes for $1775 but has a monthly payment plan with Klarna. Shipping takes one to two weeks which is a bit to long when compared to the other mattresses. It works well with solid bed frames. When you purchase the mattress, you'll get 100 night trials, free shipping and returns and also a 10 year warranty.
How we select the best mattresses
While you may prefer mattresses made in the USA, there are several other factors to consider when buying a mattress. These include offers, policies and mattress features.
Mattress Type
Here, we look at the materials used such as latex, memory or a blende of both. Some mattress brands have their own foam mattresses with various technologies - we also accept those as long as they don't contain toxic substances.
Organic latex mattresses are naturally cool, hypoallergic and cozy to sleep on. When choosing a latex mattress, we go for one that's GOLS certified to ensure it's 100% natural.
With memory foam mattresses, we completely avoid traditional memory foam, which tends to sleep hot. Our go-to is a gel infused memory foam mattress. The gel helps dissipate heat, keeping hot sleepers cool and comfortable all night.
Other types include innerspring, all foam and hybrid mattresses. Personally, I'm not a fan of innerspring mattresses. I love a hybrid mattress due to the bounce effect. A hybrid mattress will also have a lot of airflow that helps keep sleepers cool. For those who don't want the bouncy feeling when interacting with their beds, then all foam mattresses are a viable option.
Temperature regulation
As seen in the previous point, cooling features are very important to us. No one wants to wake up in a pool of sweat or experience lack of sleep because we heat up at night. Your mattress made in the USA should have cooling technologies. Aside from choosing the naturally cooling latex foam, you can buy a gel memory foam mattress, or a mattress infused with copper or graphite. As earlier mentioned, different companies offer different fusions in their foam, and as long as it's safe for humans and pets, we don't object.
Temperature regulation can also be enhanced by breathable covers with cooling effects and pocketed coils as well.
Mattress firmness
This is one of the features that many unknowingly side step. If you can't buy a mattress with the right firmness level, then there's no need to buy a mattress at all. Unless, you enjoy back aches and hip problems - to name a few.
Everyone has different body weight, hence requiring different firmness levels. Lightweight sleepers will often sleep better on a softer mattress. Average weight sleepers will feel comfy on a medium to medium firm mattress. Heavy weight sleepers should get a firm to extra firm mattress. If the latter sleeps on a plush surface, they won't get the required support and this may lead to body aches as well as affecting the mattress durability.
Pressure relief
Pressure relief is somewhat related to the firmness of a mattress. The right firmness level will enhance pressure relief, giving you a comfortable relaxing sleep. However, your sleeping position also affects pressure relief. Yes, all mattresses made in the USA are different in terms of the sleeping positions they support. A mattress can be good for stomach sleepers but not for back sleepers. Other mattresses are for combination sleepers, but depend on which combination; side sleepers and back sleepers or stomach sleepers, etc. Make sure to check reviews and see if your fellow sleeping position mates enjoyed the mattress.
Other mattresses have zoned support or targeted support (mostly hybrid mattress) and these are the best for relief on the major pressure points.
Motion isolation
You may have heard of motion isolation or motion transfer. This is an essential feature for those of us who sleep with a partner in bed. We prefer a calm undisturbed sleep, and this can only happen when a mattress offers motion isolation.
When your partner or sibling moves in bed, that movement shouldn't be transferred to your side of the bed. It should be fully isolated to their side. We test out motion transfer by having two sleep coaches sleep on the bed and one of them moving around.
Edge support
One of my chronic habits is dressing up while sitting on the edge of my bed. This means that my mattress must have commendable edge support. Else, falling over would be easy - and dangerous too. Many mattresses unfortunately lack where edge support is concerned, so if you sleep on the edge of your bed you'll need to remember this feature when buying a mattress. Luckily all the mattresses discussed above have amazing edge support.
Mattress safety
When it comes to mattress safety, we don't play around. Every mattress we rank and review must be safe for long term human use. Before our 2 stage review process commences, we select the mattresses to review and inquire about manufacturing. If a mattress is made using any toxic substances, we won't even bother to acquire it for reviewing. Some toxic substances include high levels of VOCs, ozone depleters and many more.
Conclusion
There are many details to look into while purchasing mattresses made in the USA. To add to the discussed list, we have, price, warranty, durability, weight limit, responsiveness and the company's reviews and reputation. If you get a mattress made in the USA that fits your sleep needs, sleep on it with pride and keep promoting locally made products.
